Haven't planned anything for your days off yet? Don't stress, we've come up with a fantastic itinerary, so you don't have to. This weekend we're heading down to Conondale National Park to visit Booloumba Creek and its nearby waterfall. Step away from the hustle and let your worries melt away as you cruise through the hinterland. No matter your age or family status there is fun and relaxation to be had for everyone involved.
It's time to play luggage Tetris, because we're loading up the car, don't forget to pack your togs and to download some music before you head out of range. Our first stop on the way is Maleny, to pick up some of that world class cheese, wine and nibbles for later. There are a range of fascinating little shops and market stalls to wander through and if you're feeling extra curious, take a tour through the Maleny Dairies factory where you can taste test some of your favourite treats.
Settle in because Booloumba Creek is about a 40-minute drive from Maleny. Once you arrive there are some fun, relatively easy water crossings suitable for 4WD or large SUV's. No stress if you're not up for making the crossing, just park the car, pop on your joggers and follow the road down to the day use and camping areas. If you're up for camping overnight, there are plenty of spaces right alongside the crystal clear creek, but you'll need to book in advance to secure a spot. If camping isn't your style, there are some bed and breakfasts in the nearby towns of Cambroon, Conondale and Kenilworth. There is a small rope swing for the kiddos in the waterhole, or you can wade along through the serenity, keeping an eye out for the resident wildlife. Once that's done, it's time to grill up some snags and put your feet up for the night.
Take your weekend to the next level - if you have a 4WD then today we'll be heading up the road to Booloumba Falls. The road is unpaved gravel and there are a few river crossings to challenge the adventure seekers. Eventually you'll come to the well signposted carpark, and from there it's a fairly easy 1.5km hike (3km round trip) to the main plunge pool. Have a float under the expansive canopy and explore the larger pool under the falls if you're up for a small scramble. After working up an appetite, stop off in Kenilworth on your way home at their renowned bakery, home to the 1kg donut challenge.
Now that your plans are sorted, all that's left is to pack your bags! See you there!
